“Every layer of ancestry is here in the body.”
— Simon Thakur

What might we discover beneath the sediment of language, identity, and culture, if we remembered the body as a primary source of knowledge? For Simon, ecological embodiment is a kind of relational homecoming, a rediscovery of ways of sensing that are much older and more fundamental than the notion of a self, and even than humanity.

He describes this exploration as “ancestral movement,” through which he has come to intimately relate with layers of evolutionary history within his own soma, recognizing that “every layer of ancestry is here in the body.” Together, we explore how ecological embodiment, shared ancestry, alienation, perception, and communicative capacity are interwoven with ancient modes of consciousness, myth, and our ongoing development of humanness.

Simon invites us to remember that beneath our names and stories, “there are other options available to us.”
